Another series for the files! A sermon normally gets one airing, and then it’s bound for the files (although for me those files are kept on the computer). The themes may be recycled as the need arises, but a particular homily is forever retired after a single presentation. “God is Love” has thus far been my favorite series of sermons to preach; more could have been said on the subject, but it’s time to develop a fresh theme. Still, I couldn’t help but think of the possibilities for sermons that simply begin with “God is…”
… a consuming fire, a jealous God (Deut. 4:24).
… a compassionate God (Deut. 4:31).
… not a man that He should lie or repent (Num. 23:19).

… the one who goes with you (Deut. 20:4; 31:6).
… a dwelling place (Deut. 33:27).
… He who fights for you (Josh. 23:3, 10).
… my strong fortress (2 Sam. 22:33).
… gracious and compassionate and will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him (2 Chron. 30:9).
… favorably disposed to all those who seek Him (Ezra 8:22).

… my helper (Ps. 54:4a).
… for me (Ps. 54:4b).
… my stronghold (Ps. 59:9,17).

… holy (Ps. 77:13).
… in heaven and you are on the earth (Eccl. 5:2).
… my salvation, strength and song (Isa. 12:2).
… ruler over the realm of mankind and sets over it whomever He wishes (Dan. 5:21).
… jealous and avenging (Nah. 1:2).
… able (Mt. 3:9; 2 Cor. 9:8; Heb. 11:19).

… glorified in Christ (Jn. 13:31,32).
… not one to show partiality (Acts 10:34).
… evident (Rm. 1:18,19).
… the one who justifies (Rm. 8:33).
… faithful (1 Cor. 1:9; 10:13; 2 Cor. 1:18).
… not a God of confusion but of peace (1 Cor. 14:33).
… not mocked (Gal. 6:7).
… a consuming fire (Heb. 12:29).
… opposed to the proud (James 4:6; 1 Pt. 5:5).
… light (1 Jn. 1:5).
… love (1 Jn. 4:8,16).
… over all and through all and in all (Eph. 4:6).

There could a sermon in there somewhere! Just saying!
